Tarot Tuesday Archive
Welcome to the archive for weekly tarot meditation at The Eclectic Witch. At the link for each card you’ll find the meditation for the week, in which I suggest you:
Resist the temptation to turn to the book for answers, definitions and interpretations and instead, spend some time with each card.
After you spend time with the card of the week, please feel free to leave a comment either here or at the post of the card you are studying. Then check back for some of my thoughts on each card as you will. Be sure to check out the official home of the Tuesday Tarot Meme for more great tarot links!
**Note: I won’t be writing reversed interpretations here. In general I believe that it’s never as simple as either/or - black/white, in life or tarot. When a card presents upside down in a reading it’s my practice to look at it from a different angle or perspective. Sometimes the interpretation is indeed somewhat opposite that of the upright meaning of the card but I find more often that a reversed card is more of a cautionary message, or carries an obscure or obfuscated message that one must consider in relation to the situation or the cards surrounding it, or both. Always follow your intuition.
Tarot Tuesday #1 - The Fool (0, 22)
When I see The Fool I always think of the innocence of childhood. I don’t think of The Fool as childish; rather as childlike. The Fool is not stupid or foolish; rather she is full of wonder and absolutely without preconceived notions. She is open to receiving and experiencing life and beauty and vision and her world from a place without judgment or cynicism. The Fool still believes in Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. She knows that magick is real- after all doesn’t she take flight whenever she runs fast and sings loud? Doesn’t she see animals and castles in the clouds and find fairies where adults see only fireflies?
When the Fool card presents in a reading or a single card meditation ask yourself if you are meeting the issue at hand with contempt borne of so-called common sense. If you take yourself too seriously. If you are coming from a place of fear or insecurity or stuck in your intellect.
Can you find your innocence regarding the issue at hand? Can you accept the wonder and beauty that is you and the world around you? Can you embrace the journey for the journey’s sake and let go of the destination? Can you view the situation through the eyes of a child?
The Fool is a perceiving or perception card, and can be a journeying or awakening card if you embrace it.
Tarot Tuesday #2 - The Magician (I)
The Magician is the embodiment of the concept “As above, so below”, that you will, (if you haven’t already) see me write of often. Hehas arrayed before him the tools of his trade, so to speak. The ritual implements with which he performs his works on earth. he is a master of the elements and understands that as a vessel through which to channel divine and/or universal energy into physical manifestation he must be first and always the master of self understanding and knowledge. It is through his True Will that he achieves this melding of powers outside of himself with his Will into manifestation.
Whereas the Fool is a card of being, the Magician is a card of doing. When you get this card in a reading ask yourself if you are fulfilling your potential. It often suggests that you make your will manifest through self knowledge and practical application. It is a reminder that you have total access to the ultimate powers of the universe at your fingertips, if you will but choose to act.

Tarot Tuesday #3 The High Priestess (II)
The High Priestess card always speaks to me of potential. It is the number 2 card, the first card carrying the energy of duality which is reflected in the black and white pillars on either side of the central image. She is what may be, what could be. She is possibility and wishes and the planting of seeds in Spring. Often she represents hidden or unformed knowledge or talent. She can stand for activities or business ventures still in the brainstorming stage, ripe for action but not yet put into play.
She is the eternal virgin. The thought before action, the tapasia that occurs before manifestation, the seed. The High Priestess is a card of “readiness“.
What ideas do you have? What projects would you like to begin? What kinds of plants will grow from the seeds of thought that you want to plant? Are there hidden and as yet unknown potentials within you that you must explore? The High Priestess is poised for action. Will you heed her message and act/be/become/create/manifest?
Tuesday Tarot #4 The Empress (IV)
When I see the empress I always feel pregnant with ideas, thoughts, creation… magick. The Empress speaks to me of manifestation. Of nurturing a seed to sprout, a seedling to grow and flower, a flower to bring forth fruit.
The Empress is mother, matriarch. She is caregiver and caretaker; the benevolent ruler of her demesnes. She is earthy and health and fecund. She luxuriates in her senses and surroundings. She loves beauty and sensuality and is, in fact, sensuality personified.
When you see the Empress see yourself in her. Consider creation and birth and growth. Feel your nurturing, loving expression in your family and among your close friends. How does she relate to your life right now? Are you nurturing yourself and others? Are you in a creative process and about to give birth? When the Empress appears in your reading you are probably full with life and love and luxuriating in abundance. Enjoy!
