What’s good in Thorne’s World today?

You might remember my my overcrowded Altar from my recent article How to Create an Ancestor Altar or Altar of Your Dead.

My Crowded Ancestor Altar

I was so tired of seeing my sweet dead with their mementos and photos all piled together.  I told you all I’d post images as I worked on and set up my new altar.

First I white-washed the inside of this old bookshelf. I thought I was going to paint and collage a bit on the inside, but I really like the reflected light that seems to illuminate my dead even at night, so I’m going to leave the interior whitewashed.

It took two coats, but it really brightened things up!

I really like the duality of the Art Deco Dancer and the Auntie Skeleton figures atop the altar. In the center is my Circle of Family which holds the perpetual candle, but there is still lots of room to add another 12 candles at Holy Days and birthdays.

I still have tissue paper roses to add (I’ll be posting instructions on how to make these fun flowers soon), and dancing skeleton ribbons twinkle lights. I’ll be painting the border trim with roses and other brightly colored Dia De Los Muertos style images as time goes on, and I haven’t moved my pets and familiars in yet either, so be sure to check back and see my progress!

Won’t you join us?? Help spread the good love for Only The Good Friday!

Share your good with me here or leave the link to your good in comments and I’ll repost it here! Thanks for participating!

How do you honor your ancestors and beloved dead?
